New Season New Faces

The Miami Heat kicked off the new season with a win against the Detroit Pistons, Heat 103 Pistons 102. It was not pretty but the Heat have never been a flashy team and a win is a win. While the Heat primarily have the same roster as last season we did get a chance to see some new faces in last night's season opener. Thomas Bryant, the new backup center, brought so much hustle and energy and Jaime Jaquez Jr, the rookie, showed that he was ready to get his feet moving on the court.

The Miami Heat have had some issues with their backup centers especially last season. Whether it was Dewayne Dedmon or Cody Zeller, anytime Bam sat it was nearly guaranteed the opposing team would go on a run. This past summer the Miami Heat signed Thomas Bryant, who just won a championship with the Denver Nuggets to a 2 year, $5.3 Million deal and the second year is a player option. In his official Heat debut, Bryant went for 8 points shooting 2 for 5 from the field (40%), 6 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. While those are not flashy numbers Bryant showed hustle, great defense and brought energy off the bench.

Jaime Jaquez Jr was selected by the Heat with the 18th overall pick in this years' NBA draft. He played four seasons at UCLA and was considered the most NBA ready out of all the young players in his draft class. He was limited in preseason dealing with an injury but in his official Heat debut he showed he was definitely NBA ready. Jaime went for 6 points shooting 3 for 3 from the field (100%), 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Now again, not flashy numbers but Jaime showed he's got great skills and it's only going to get better as he develops with the Miami Heat.
